Dental bonding, offered at The Cullen Dental Practice in Putney, London, refers to the use of tooth-colored composite resin to conceal chips, cracks, discoloration, and other minor dental imperfections to improve the function and appearance of your smile. Dental bonding is an affordable alternative to porcelain veneers, and offers numerous restorative and cosmetic benefits.
Dental bonding is a fast and simple method of correcting minor dental imperfections.
Most patients qualify for dental bonding. If your teeth have suffered minor damage due to chips, cracks, or other trauma, dental bonding may be the ideal solution to strengthen teeth and restore the appearance of your smile. Dental bonding can also brighten teeth that do not respond to professional teeth whitening. If you have small gaps between your teeth, slightly crooked teeth, or other minor alignment issues, dental bonding can conceal these imperfections without the use of orthodontics.
Some patients may require periodontal or other treatment before undergoing dental bonding; however, once their mouths are healthy, they will be candidates for the procedure.
Depending on the number of teeth receiving treatment, dental bonding can take up to two hours. Together, you and your doctor will select the shade of composite resin that most closely matches the shade of your natural or newly whitened teeth. The composite resin that the doctor uses in dental bonding is the same material that we use in our tooth-colored fillings.
We are committed to maximising the health and appearance of our patients' smiles, and we will work with you to help you achieve your cosmetic goals.
Once the shade of composite is selected, Dr. Cullen will use a gentle acidic solution to lightly etch your tooth, improving the adhesion of the composite resin by creating greater surface area. Next, your doctor will apply the bonding agent and the composite resin to create the desired width and length of the tooth. After shaping and smoothing the resin to ensure that your smile is symmetrical and that your bite is properly aligned, your dentist will harden the resin with a UV light. Finally, Dr. Cullen will polish your tooth.
